Dogs With A Cause, a partnership between Louisiana Tech University’s College of Education and its Athletic Department, provides opportunities to serve elementary students today and create opportunities for their tomorrows. For the past three years, Coaching for Literacy has partnered with Dogs With A Cause to donate books and literacy materials to students in Ruston, Louisiana.

This year, Coaching for Literacy’s grant provided five books for each first, second and third grader at Dubach Elementary, as well as “Think More” sheets and a Family Literacy Guide. That by no means ends the commitment from Dogs With A Cause. Basketball players mentor and read to the students, showcasing hard work and dedication to achieving their goals.

The objective of Dogs With A Cause volunteers is to keep students on their literacy path and inspire them to become lifelong readers. To accomplish this, they spark imaginations and assist with the proper resources to create a valuable learning experience.

Amber Burdge, the program coordinator, shared, “With this project, we are bringing an inclusive approach to strengthening the connection between literacy and children’s well-being with culturally relevant authentic texts.”

Coaching for Literacy’s #Fight4Literacy Games presented by International Paper will once again support Dogs With A Cause to support young readers in Ruston, LA. As the presenting partner of the #Fight4Literacy Games, International Paper will guarantee a $10,000 donation and has issued a challenge match to raise an additional $5,000. Ready to join in the #Fight4Literacy? A donation of $10 can provide two books for a child in Ruston. Learn more here and donate today.
